Raising money for children’s burns research

QBANK are proud supporters of Bike 4 Burns

Now in its 12th year, Bike 4 Burns is a charity bike ride raising funds and awareness for the Children’s Hospital Foundation. Money raised supports burns research technology and treatment in a bid to reduce the amount of pain and suffering adults and particularly children endure from multiple operations.

This year, cyclists from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service Bike 4 Burns team travelled 750km in 7 days, touring the Brisbane Scenic Rim as over 40 riders travelled from Southport to Boonah, to Killarney, Toowoomba, Blackbutt, Toogoolawah then onto Mt Crosby for the final leg to the finish at the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital.

At QBANK, we are proud supporters of Bike 4 Burns – who have raised over $600,000 for burns research since it began in 2007.

Helping Children like Charlie

Charlie was only one-year-old when he sustained full thickness burns to 36 per cent of his body after accidently pouring boiling hot oil over himself. To reduce long-term damage, Charlie required immediate surgery. He was in theatre for eight hours over the first two days. He then spent a further 37 days in hospital, undergoing 11 surgeries and 21 separate procedures.

Thanks to vital funding from the Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital is now home to a state-of-the-art laser, the first of its kind in Queensland, which will reduce the number of painful skin grafts required for children like Charlie, who is now three.

Last year over 1300 children were treated for burns injuries at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.
