QBANK Announces Finalists in 2019 Everyday Heroes Awards

Queenslanders have recognised their local heroes today as finalists are revealed for the 2019 QBANK Everyday Heroes Awards.

The awards, now in their sixth year, aim to honour Queensland’s frontline and public service workers, as well as youth aged 17 years and under, who have gone above and beyond to help their community.

QBANK CEO Mike Currie said he thoroughly enjoyed reading the inspiring stories of those everyday heroes across Queensland who have made a difference, ahead of the winners being announced on October 11, 2019.

“Across the five adult categories as well as the Young Everyday Hero Award for those aged 12-17 years, it is always difficult to choose just six recipients who exemplify the qualities of an everyday hero,” Mr Currie said.

“We have received nominations ranging from a teenager who has gone out of their way to brighten the lives of hospital patients and aged care residents through singing, to police officers who have shown astounding courage in difficult situations during the Townsville floods.

“I am once again moved by the stories of our hard-working frontline and public service workers. It makes me feel extremely proud to be a Queenslander and to be part of an organisation that looks after the state’s everyday heroes.”

QBANK’s highly respected judging panel will select award recipients based on the Awards criteria which assesses finalists’ proven track record of professional commitment and community dedication, commonly through fundraising and charity work, supporting the vulnerable or disadvantaged, mentoring and leadership or spreading community awareness.

Awards are presented in six categories including: Achievement, Ownership, Dedication, Working Together, Excellence and the Young Everyday Hero Award.

Winners receive prize money of $1,000, with a further $1,000 donated to a charity of the award recipient’s choice. The Young Everyday Hero award winner will receive a $500 bursary to assist with training and development.
